Welcome

The SWOT mission brings together two communities focused on a better understanding of the world's oceans and its terrestrial surface waters. U.S. and French oceanographers and hydrologists and international partners have joined forces to develop this satellite mission to make the first global survey of Earth's surface water, observe the fine details of the ocean's surface topography, and measure how these water bodies change over time.

Workshop Objectives

Nearly three years after its launch, this science team meeting will showcase the extensive scientific advancements achieved using SWOT data, which has been made publicly available on a global scale. SWOT promises to highlight remarkable accomplishments in oceanography, hydrology, estuary studies, cryosphere research, and groundbreaking discoveries, as well as the emergence of new user communities inspired by SWOT.

One particular objective of this event is to assess the L2 products that will be entirely reprocessed in PID0, and available by May 2025.

With SWOT data now open to the public, this meeting marks the first occasion where participation is extended beyond the Science Team members. We are excited to share and discuss the impressive results from broader scientific and end users communities.

Workshop Attendance

The workshop will be held in-person in Arcachon, France from 14 to 17 October, 2025.

Workshop Format

This meeting will take place over four days.

  • Day 1 focuses on mission updates and scientific progress nearly three years post-launch. A plenary session follows, highlighting significant advancements and new findings in deltas, estuaries, and coastal systems.
  • Day 2 highlights the SWOT products, reprocessing status, and current understanding of the mission’s capabilities. Presentations from the broader SWOT user community showcase new discoveries and insights.
  • Day 3 features scientific advancements achieved within the SWOT working groups, with focused discussions taking place in splinter sessions.
  • Day 4 emphasizes the science and applications enabled by SWOT, featuring insights shared by the wider user community. The meeting concludes with an open discussion on future directions for ocean and continental water observations, and also on the further exploration of other domains.

Poster sessions are held at the end of each plenary or splinter session, providing an opportunity for in-depth exploration and presentation of detailed scientific findings.

Workshop Abstracts submission & Outcome

Abstracts submission process will be carried out directly on the AVISO website according to the schedule indicated in the key dates.

Following the workshop, the proceedings (presentations, discussion summaries and conclusions) will be prepared and made available to participants and other interested parties on the AVISO website.

Workshop Language

The working language of the workshop will be English.
